He produced and directed three films in the multi-award winning, critically acclaimed PBS/Channel 4 series, DNA, marking the 50thanniversary of the double helix winning an ABSW Award and EMMY for DNA: The Human Race- a definitive account of the Human Genome Project with contributions from all the leading scientists involved and former President Bill Clinton.
He has devised and Executive Produced a wide range of series and films exploring large scale, long-term engineering projects. These include the hit BBC2 returning series The Fifteen Billion Pound Railwaycharting the eight year construction of London’s new metro line – Crossrail; Last Flight Of The Space Shuttlefor Discovery Channel charting the definitive story of the space shuttle through the eyes of the people who made it happen as the clock counted down to the final ever launch; Inside Chernobyl’s Mega Tomb for PBS NOVA/BBC exploring the construction of a huge metal dome sealing Chernobyl’s crumbling nuclear reactor and Sunken Ship Rescuefor PBS NOVA/Nat Geo charting engineers battle to raise the stricken Costa Concordia Cruise Ship.
He has pioneered the immersive use of 3D CGI animation to reveal the secrets of how machines, structures and wonders of the universe work in his popular series’ Strip The Cosmos,Big Bigger Biggest, Building Giants,Rise of the Machines, Monster Moves andUnearthed.
He created and Executive Produced the innovative lifestyle series My Floating Homewith Mark Evans and Impossible Buildswith Charlie Luxton for Channel 4. The series’ chart the exploits of families building extreme properties on water and on far-flung isolated plots.
He devised and Executive Produced the global hit character-driven obs-doc series Railroad Alaska. The series for Destination America and Animal Planet follows the lives of crews who battle ferocious weather to keep the State’s vital railroad line operating during the winter.
He was Executive Producer of PBS NOVA’s highly successful 2017 event special Eclipse Across America. The quick turnaround film tracked the path of the first total solar eclipse to cross the continental United States in 99 years.
He is author of the book Monster Moves: Adventures in Moving the Impossible that accompanies the TV series. A Physics graduate of Imperial College London, he returns regularly to lecture to Post-graduate students about the challenges of communicating science on television.
